It is fair that you get to know some details on how the model ships are created. Because what you want is something that would last you some time, it would be very important that you get the right understanding on how the models are created. This may not make much sense to you but would help you develop a checklist to verify that what you are getting is the best.
The designer would need to have narrow pieces of the right wood which is the rare wood cut into separate planks. After this is done, then he would carefully try to fasten each one of the planks on the frame that should be on the hull of the ship. This is what we refer to as frame planking.
Once it has been successfully accomplished, then the designer would further add individual pieces of wood which has to be the right type on the exterior of the hull. This would be done and fastened to stick. This would be what would eventually give the right model boats that you would wish to buy.
Even though this may not sound so familiar to you, you realize that you would need to check on how you go about the processes to be able to get the right model that would just last till you have your boat or ship.
